What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar Yoga is an innovative and precise teaching method that emphasises alignment, planned sequencing, timing and the use of props. Props are used to encourage openness and awareness within the body, they provide informative support for beginners, or extension and deeper understanding for the more experienced practitioner. Iyengar Yoga is suitable for all ages, regardless of physical challenges and fitness levels. The physical, mental and emotional benefits of a regular yoga practice will assist the practitioner in every aspect of daily life.
What to expect in class
You will be guided through a unique sequence that provides safe, systematic and steady progression rather than quick and fleeting results. We believe in creating firm foundations through stability and strength, the focus is not solely on physical flexibility, it’s also about creating internal space. We provide clear instruction and demonstrations to cater for all learning preferences. We will teach you about intelligent action that will lead to greater understanding of your own body, promoting personal growth and the confidence to undertake challenges as they arise. All our classes conclude with Savasana (relaxation) and breath awareness.
- "I have been doing weekly Iyengar yoga classes under the expert instruction of Kristy for many years. I love the way Kristy teaches with intuition and care and how she caters to every level of experience and ability. Yoga has helped my mental health and improved my overall wellbeing. I always leave Kristy’s classes feeling uplifted, encouraged and peaceful. She is an outstanding teacher and a genuinely beautiful person." ~ Caroline ~
- "I started doing yoga with Kristy about eight years ago. When I began I was very uncoordinated and although I had been active all my life I found yoga quite challenging. Kristy was so patient, explained the asanas and their benefits with great detail. It didn't take long to increase my strength and flexibility, but the unexpected benefit was my ability to relax and be more tuned in to my mental health. I had suffered depression many times in my life and yoga has helped give me the skills to be more relaxed. I am still doing yoga with Kristy every week. I found out recently that I may be facing a knee replacement due to osteoarthritis, but Kristy modifies the asanas for me so I can continue my much loved yoga. I would recommend Kristy's yoga classes to anyone with a desire to build their strength and happy feelings." ~ Diane ~
- "Yoga is a very important part of my life, especially since COVID 19 and going through menopause. With Kristy and Jenny's help guiding me through the physical poses and breathing techniques, I have found balance and focus in my busy life. Their classes are informative, educational and tailored to suit each participant in the class." ~ Charmaine ~
